An Update on Me

I know that it has been a few weeks since I have written a journal, but I have had a good reason. About 2 weeks ago, I was at Con of the North for those of you who don't know about this one, it is one of the big gaming conventions in Minnesota. Got in on the Preregistration, for about $25 for the entire weekend and a little volunteer time, I got to learn to play different sorts of games. This thing had something for EVERYONE! Board games, card games, Miniatures, RPGs and LARPs (Role Playing Games and Live Action Role Play), even a computer LAN for the computer gamers. I never played miniatures games before, but I love them, I never thought I would get into something like that! And it did not matter if you were a beginner or not, they taught the basics. I was even able to get some of my japanese candy there (POCKY!) and even buy a new game (Any Munchkin card game fans out there!?) I owe a friend of mine for inviting me to this. Talk about a FUN weekend. It was worth not just the cost but the sickness....

Yeah, 3/4ths of the way through the Con, I got sick. Not just a little cold, but a 'Oh My God my chest is in BURNING PAIN when I cough, flat on my back for a week, and I am coughing up junk a week later' sick. THAT sort of sick. From sunday to sunday I was in bed. I still do not know what I had. But you know what? That week was worth the weekend I had. And I would gladly do it again. In other news...

Need Help!

Ok, this is not an emergency, but I do need help here. I am looking to expand my skills. For the longest time, I have been working as a comic colorist, and I have gotten too used to coloring inside the lines. Now I want to learn to color outside the lines, as in creating my own stuff. Mostly I want to do landscape design, figures, everything. Maybe the more general topic of digital painting. Do any of you guys have any good books on doing that sort of stuff? I am looking for good free tutorials or inexpensive books that would be able to help me with the basics. I want to work through my fear of drawing, and I am looking for personal choices. I know about conceptart.org, but I feel at times that the place is a little intimidating. Is there any personal favorites that any of you guys can recommend?

I need help here.

I'm glad you had fun learning new things at the con! :3 It just stinks that the bug had to hit you so hard. D: Probably got it at the con, huh?

I find that one of the best tutorial resource is here on DA. Believe me, if you know exactly what you want to learn, you can find it, and by good artists who know what they're talking about. I don't have a particular favorite, but if you seek, you shall find.
